there are several startups working on methods of GMO-yeast-based fermentation to produce milk proteins, including Remilk, Perfect Day, Future Cow, and others.
When will it be possible to order a Starbucks drink using a milk substitute based on this technology?
Update 2026-02-17 (PST) (AI summary of creator comment): The market will resolve YES if any Manifold user can produce a receipt for a drink made with precision fermentation (PF) milk from Starbucks.

@JesWolfe What scale are you looking for here? US-wide rollout? It seems it has already been trialled in 2021:
"Perfect Day’s milk is currently available at two Seattle locations for a limited time."
"for the next six to nine months, our focus is going to be succeeding in Israel. [...] A US partnership is definitely something we’re aiming for in 2026.”
I'm out of the loop as Europe is too GMO-skeptical for these products, but it sounds like the current products don't taste like milk but Remilk might be better? Unclear if it's up to the level required for good lattes though.
